Mugg & Bean is a home away from home or an office away from the office – the perfect meeting place.

It’s where people gather to experience the true spirit of generosity. This is not a term we use lightly, and it’s what keeps our customers coming back for more.

Mugg & Bean customers know what we’re talking about. They keep on returning for our famous bottomless coffee that keeps conversations alive for hours, our giant muffins that make you go “Wow!” the first time you see them, our generous portion sizes that can satisfy any hunger, or our friendly staff and homely atmosphere that make everyone feel welcome.

The Wannabees are most welcome for coffee at our Stellenbosch Square Mugg & Bean. Yes we will give discount to The Wannabees – 10% on coffee and 15% on meals. The discount will apply to groups or individuals upon presentation of Wannabee Club Membership cards. It is always appreciated to receive support from any cyclist.

    Saturday 26 May
  • Registration:
    From 7.00 am
  • Race start time:
    8.00 am

Route :
We are currently finalizing the route, but we can say this at this stage: it is magnificent! A lot of divine new singletrack has been built against the Hottentots-Holland mountains, and you will be the first to ride it! We will post the profile on the website towards the end of this week, but we will end up with about 43km and 900m of climbing. A challenging but enjoyable route!

Day riders: If you would like to try the concept of racing on handicap but would not want to enter the League as yet, contact us at info@cmtbl.com and you will be able to ride the race on a once-off basis, to make up your mind about the concept afterwards.

What we need from you: Confirmation of whether you’re going to participate or not, to allow ourselves and Ongegund Lodge to make proper arrangements!

What you can look forward to: free coffee and muffin before the race, spectacular course, a free beer after the race, and great prizes again as usual!

See you at Ongegund Lodge

It’s that time of year again when we need to start making plans for DC 2012. As far as I am aware the ride takes place on the last Saturday of November 2012, once again starting and finishing in Swellendam.

It is envisaged that the Wannabee club will have 5 perhaps 6 teams participating this year. Should however the response be overwhelming we will increase the number of teams.

Based on previous years and depending on the response received it is envisaged that the following teams will be considered:-

  1. Fast Team – this team would look to ride between 6h45 & 7 hours
  2. Next Team -  this team would look to ride between 7hrs & 7h15
  3. Mixed Team – 6 female and 6 male riders aiming to ride a sub 8hr
  4. Social Team 1 – this team would look to ride at about 7h45 to 8h15
  5. Social Team 2 – this team would look to ride about 9hrs to 9h15

To qualify yourself for a team it is suggested that for team 1 you would need to have cycled this year’s “Argus” under approximately 3h05, for team 2 under 3h15, for team 3 between 3h15 to 3h30, team 4 between 3h30-3h45 and team 5 3h50 to 4h15.

Saturday 21 April

Saturday saw about 20 riders splitting into two groups initially and then divided into about 4 groups during the ride.  The riders that were doing the longer fast ride were lead by Michel.  I and the other riders had time constraints and so our route consisted of Vlaeberg and back to Stellies.  Hannes Titus got a puncture en route to Vlaeberg and so the group was split again.   John and three others included an extra loop- Devon Valley.   I was limited with time, as I was one of the 12 riders involved in the ‘Hospice 12 Hour Cycle Challenge’ and my slot started at 10am.

I created a spreadsheet with each rider’s name and the distance they accrued in the hour and the total for all 12 riders.

Back to the scoop about the ‘Hospice Challenge’, Verity and Jenny Findlay did the first and second hour consecutively.  As Verity‘s slot was during the Wannabee ride, she did not have any support, but she knew we were thinking about her .Verity also helped set up the two bikes on Friday.  Jenny, Annemieke and I, had a few supporters, namely Claire, Hertzel and John popped in to give their moral support.  Hour by Hour passed by with each of the 12 Wannabee members clocked up the Kilometers.  I have to mention that the saying ‘save the best to the last ’could be said as our motto of the day because Campbell rode an amazing 58km/phr and then Archie cycling the last hour did an UNBELIEVABLE 60km/phr !!!

Special thanks to David, Trevor and Campbell as they came to our rescue.

I would also like to thank Clayton and Joretha for supporting the riders for about 5 hours. You two were great!!

What a successful day and all for a wonderful cause, our team has raised R 3750 and clocked up 590,96km. Any more donations would be grateful, the whole event has raised about R150 000!

Sunday 22 April

A small group of about 10 eager riders, decided to brave the wind and drizzle!

It was decided by Robbie that the best route would be Vlaeberg, Devon-Valley and back.  So all riders went on their way and were stopped a few times, all false alarms, thinking they were punctures! However, mine sounded authentic, but I had a few leaves stuck in the wheel.

The coffee stop was Stellenbosch Square, but no cappuccinos were available, as they had a power cut, but they accommodated us and served coffee with hot milk instead!

Thanks again to all members involved in the Hospice event

Have a great week.
